Display- Corning on to 2nd Phase in Glass Plant Project

Expecting a bloom in demand for LCD TVs and desktop PC monitors, Corning plans to move into the second phase of its three-stage glass capacity expansion project in CTSP (Central Taiwan Science Park).

 

Corning will be allocating an additional US$326 million to set up the CTSP glass plant. The second-stage plant is expected to achieve mass production in the fourth quarter of 2005, and new lines will continue to ramp up through 2006.

 

The first-stage assemblage of Corning's glass furnace plant is now proceeding, to is to be operational for 5.5th and 6th generation mass production in the third quarter of 2005. When completed, the plant will consist of 32 furnaces. Capitalizing on Corning's total of NT$ 60 billion (US$1.8 billion, US$1 = NT$33.9) investment, the facility stands as Corning's largest single investment project worldwide.
